Through research and user interviews, the creators of Wrest identified the need to focus on educating users about work hygiene, correct sitting, and wrist positioning, rather than just notifying them and displaying data. The app was designed to help users take regular breaks and teach them exercises that would keep their wrists healthy. The design of the app and the hardware of the mouse pad was improved to ensure user comfort and ease of movement, resulting in a successful project in helping people prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with a Smart Mouse Pad

Our team of three medicine students identified a problem in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic: the need to sanitize pens and tables after every visitor filled out a paper form. We proposed an electronic questionnaire solution that would eliminate the need for physical contact with the forms.

I designed and built a Smart Home Platform from scratch to learn more about how smart home devices work together. I encountered obstacles such as users not remembering information from onboarding screens and difficult terminology. I was able to successfully build the platform, which included a web app, device setup flow, electronics for controllers, and 3D printed plastic enclosures. I also learned lessons such as the importance of in-context information and compatibility with existing ecosystems.
